Biodiversity

We live in one of the most biologically unique and diverse parts of Australia.

The diversity of birds in the Byron Shire is second only to the wet tropics. Over half the state’s plant species occur here in the northeast corner.

Byron Shire is home to 71 threatened plants and 167 threatened animals. Check out our threatened species listsThen, use the Native Species Planting Guide to find native plants to grow in your garden.

Learn about our work to restore wildlife habitat for our koalas, flying-foxes and Bush Stone-curlews, and other species.

If you are a landholder seeking a more sustainable, productive future visit our Regenerative Agriculture section for resources, toolkits and info about events.
