Biodiversity

We live in one of the most biologically unique and diverse parts of Australia.

The diversity of birds in the Byron Shire is second only to the wet tropics. Over half the state’s plant species occur here in the northeast corner.

Byron Shire is home to 71 threatened plants and 167 threatened animals. View our fauna and flora threatened species lists and find out what native plants to grow in your garden using the Native Species Planting Guide.

Discover what we are doing to restore wildlife habitat for our koala's, flying-foxes and bush stone curlews as well as other species.

If you are a landholder looking to create a more sustainable productive future or interested in Regenerative Agriculture, visit our Agriculture or Farming Business page.

The Byron Shire Biodiversity Conservation Strategy is a plan of action to help Council and the community protect and enhance our natural biodiversity.
