Planning an Event

Events are central to Byron Shire’s cultural identity and economic life. From grassroots community gatherings to festivals. 

There are a number of factors involved in planning an event. 

From Development Applications, permits and other Council approvals, we can help you identify what you need. 

Follow the steps below to make an enquiry.

Step 1.Before you start

Review the event fees and categories below. You'll need to select the category that best describes your event for fee purposes.

Submit your enquiry as early as possible to ensure your chosen venue is available. Check lead times for more information.

We will review your enquiry and contact you to discuss next steps.

Step 4.Pay the fee

Application and fees must be paid before a licence is issued.

Event Fees and Categories

Below are the different categories for event fees and charges. The events team will provide you with the applicable fees based on the details of your application.

Community rate

Please note to be eligible for the community rate you must meet the below guidelines.

  • Not for profit incorporated body raising money for a registered charity.
  • Letter of support from registered charity and certificate of incorporation must be provided;

OR

  • Registered as an income tax exempt charity (ITEC) with the ATO, with evidence to be provided.

Cost: $0

 Standard rate

Means any activity that does not generate income from the use of council owned or managed land that is assessed as not meeting the definition of Community Rate.

Cost: Application Fee $235, license fee per day $207

Commercial rate

Means any activity that generates income from the use of Council owned or managed land that is assessed as not meeting the definition of Community Rate.

Cost: Application fee $299, license fee per day up to 7 days $417.

Other fees and charges may apply such as: 

  • Assessment by Local Traffic Forum
  • Parking/Hoardings
  • Road Act Approval
  • Bond.

It’s important to also speak with the Council Events Team to translate state plans and guides to local places and spaces.
