Lot 12 Bayshore Drive – Roundabout Construction

Council is building a new roundabout on Bayshore Drive, at the intersection of the access road to TAFE and the IGA shopping centre.

This project is part of the development of a 5.8-hectare Council-owned block of land known as Lot 12 Bayshore Drive.

From Monday 13 October until the end of November (weather permitting) there are changes to traffic movement.

What's being done:

  • New roundabout
  • Foot paths and replacement of existing foot paths
  • Garden beds
  • Replacing broken kerbs and gutters
  • Lighting
  • Water and sewer infrastructure for new development.

What to expect

From 13 October to 28 November (weather permitting)

  • A section of Bayshore Drive between Sunrise Boulevard and Centennial Circuit will be reduced to one lane of traffic.
  • The temporary roundabout at the intersection of Bayshore Drive and Sunrise Boulevard will be dismantled.
  • Bayshore Drive will remain open to traffic travelling north bound from the direction of Centennial Circuit in the direction of Elements Resort.
  • Traffic travelling from the direction of Elements Resort south bound towards Centennial Circuit will detour via Sunrise Boulevard.
  • Access to and from Byron Bay Fair will be via Bayshore Drive northbound only.
  • Work times – Monday to Friday between 7am and 5pm and Saturdays between 8am to 5pm. 
  • Noise – Machinery noise including drilling and vacuum excavation.

During the Christmas holiday period works will be paused for two weeks from Saturday 20 December to Sunday 4 January. During this period traffic flow will be as normal through the new roundabout.

The final stage of works is scheduled to start on Monday 5 January and be completed by the end of March 2026.
