Byron Bay Drainage Upgrade

The primary goal of the drainage upgrade is to reduce the impacts of flooding to residents and businesses throughout Byron Bay's town centre.

The upgrade has begun and stage one of construction in the Town Centre Catchment will run until November 2026 (weather permitting).

Announcement : Work will recommence in February 2026.

Byron Street pedestrian crossing - Bangalow

A new pedestrian crossing is being built at Byron Street in Bangalow, near the All Souls Anglican Church.

The crossing is being built on a raised hump and will have a flat top so people can walk safely and easily from one side of the road to the other side.

Announcement : Construction of the raised crossing is currently in progress.

During construction Ashton Street will be closed to outbound traffic and Byron Street will be reduced to one lane under traffic control. Please expect delays.

Clifford Street intersection safety measures

In late 2024 Council received funding to install traffic signals at the intersection of Clifford Street and Broken Head Road at Suffolk Park.

In September 2025 Councillors resolved not to go ahead with project.

Instead, staff will seek funding to produce concept plans for a mini roundabout option and a standard roundabout option.

Coopers Creek Road Flood Restoration

We are repairing damage on Coopers Creek Road Caused by the 2022 flood event. This work includes culverts, landslips and pavement works.

Coopers Lane culvert repairs

We are repairing the Coopers Lane culvert in Main Arm that was damaged during the 2022 floods.

This project is due to start early 2026.

Announcement : Culvert works are commencing Monday 19 January and scheduled to be finished early March 2025 (weather permitting).

Note there will be road closures and expect long delays between 9am and 3pm.

Coopers Shoot & Picadilly Hill Road Shoulder Repairs

We are repairing sections of road and drainage on Coopers Shoot and Picadilly Hill Road from damage caused in the 2022 flood event.

This project is due to start early to mid 2026.

Fixing potholes in the Byron Shire

Flood restoration works - Minor landslips pack 17

We are repairing minor landslips caused by the 2022 floods. This includes landslides on Goonengerry Road, Main Arm Road, The Pocket Road, Left Bank Road and Frasers Road. This package of works is known as pack 17.

Announcement : Works will resume near Motts Road on Monday 19 January 2026 and is scheduled to finish late January.

Goonengerry Public School Bus Stop Upgrade

We are doing works near Goonengerry Public School as part of a project funded by Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

A new bus bay will be constructed on Goonengerry Road, next to the school, providing a safe and accessible bus-boarding point.

Gravel roads flood repairs

We are repairing various gravel road damages that occurred during the 2022 floods.
