Planning a Wedding

Byron Shire is a popular place to celebrate weddings - from beaches and hinterland views to community halls, open spaces and high-quality private venues and services.

If you’re thinking about holding your ceremony in a public place, please read the information below and complete our online application form.

Please allow a minimum of 4 weeks for your application to be processed.

Applications submitted with shorter notice may not be accepted.

We'll review your application and get back to you to confirm details.

Step 3.Pay the fee

We will invoice you for payment. This will include the $130 application fee, plus your license fee based on the number of attendees.

Guidelines for Weddings on Public Land

Time Limit
Wedding ceremonies are limited to a maximum of 2 hours.

Turnaround for Application
Please allow a minimum of 4 weeks for your application to be processed. Applications submitted with shorter notice may not be accepted.

Attendees
A maximum of 150 guests is permitted. 

Exclusive Use
Bookings do not provide exclusive use of the area. Our parks and beaches remain open to the public, and spaces are shared with other visitors.

Alcohol
All Council public reserves are alcohol free.

Protecting Our Natural Environment
To help care for our beautiful spaces, we kindly ask that balloons, plastic confetti, and paper confetti are not used. Further information can be found here.

Fees & Charges

The application fee must be paid prior to the issuing of the temporary license.

  • Application Fee: $130 plus the below based on attendees
  • License Fee: 1 to 50 people - $281
  • License Fee: 51 to 100 people - $364
  • License Fee: 101 to 150 people - $500+
