How to pay for parking in Byron Shire

Pay parking operates in:

  • Brunswick Heads central business district and South Beach Road.
  • Broken Head Reserve Road (Coming in December)
  • Byron Bay central business district and council-operated car parks.  
  • Parts of Wategos. 

Separate fees apply at National Parks carparks: The Pass, Lighthouse, Bawaii Rest Area, Cosy Corner (Tallow Beach), Broken Head and Seven Mile Beach.

Time limits apply to all vehicles. Check the signs before parking.

Pay at the parking meter

Step 1.Enter your licence plate at the meter

Step 2.Choose the duration of your stay

Operating hours:

  • 9am to 6pm, in Byron Bay and Broken Head
  • 9am to 5pm in Brunswick Heads,
  • Seven days a week including public holidays.

Step 3.Pay the amount

Parking fees are $5 per hour, capped at $25 for all day parking.  

  • Coins - Not all machines take coins. You may need to try a few nearby machines.
  • Credit or debit cards
  • Pay wave or QR code
  • Pay Stay app. 

You do not need to display a ticket. 

Step 4.Move your car when the maximum time has been reached

Step 5.Receipt

To get a receipt visit MyParkingTicket. You will need to provide

  • Receipt number.
  • Date of parking
  • Meter ID number.

PayStay app

Use the PayStay app to pay for metered parking in Byron Bay and Brunswick Heads. You can also search for parking by time restriction and location.  

Step 1.Register with PayStay

Step 2.Park in a PayStay zone

  • Open the PayStay app or call 1300 322 111
  • Select or enter your vehicle registration.
  • Enter the 8 digit parking zone number displayed on the parking signs.  
  • Start the Parking Session.

Step 3.Finish parking

  • Open the PayStay app or call 1300 322 111
  • Stop the Parking Session.

  • Overnight parking is restricted along the beachfront and adjacent to many reserves.
