Volunteer with Council

We celebrate the wonderful work volunteers do in our community.

There are many different ways you can volunteer with Council.

Do you want to help shape the future of Bryon Shire? Join an Advisory Committee to help make recommendations to Council on specific issues or topics.

When Council is first elected they decide which Advisory Committees they want for the next four years.

Vacancies are advertised whenever a committee member is needed.

Current Council Advisory Committees include:

  • Audit, Risk and Improvement
  • Arakwal Memorandum of Understanding
  • Biodiversity
  • Byron Shire Floodplain Risk Management
  • Finance
  • Local Traffic
  • Sustainability and Emissions Reduction
  • Transport and Infrastructure
  • Water, Waste and Sewer
  • Public Art

Council owns a number of community halls which are run by dedicated volunteers. You can volunteer to look after our community halls by applying to join a Committee.

As a volunteer you will be involved in keeping community halls maintained and available for our community to enjoy. You will also meet new people and build relationships with people in the Byron Shire.

Committee vacancies are advertised on our website under Public Notices.

You must fill out an application form if you wish to join a Committee. This includes:

  • People wanting to join for the first time
  • People who joined a Committee during the last council and want to join the Committee again when the new council starts.
