The Byron Shire Community Awards are on again this year and Council is seeking nominations for individuals, businesses and groups who’ve made an exceptional contribution to community life over the last 12 months.

“We’re asking everyone in the Byron Shire to think about the people, businesses and groups they know doing something inspiring and enriching for our community – and nominate them for an award,” Byron Shire Mayor, Michael Lyon, said.

“There are so many people out there giving up huge amounts of their time to make the lives of others better.  Our annual Byron Shire Community Awards are about recognising these efforts and I encourage everyone to get online and make a nomination today,” the Mayor said.

There are eight award categories open for the 2024 Byron Shire Community Awards including:

1. Community Member of the Year

2. Young Community Member of the Year

3. Community Initiative of the Year

4. In Business for Good Award

5. Caring for Country Award

6. Access and Inclusion Award

7. Creativity Award

8. Contributions to Health and Wellbeing Award.

“Last year, we moved our Community Awards away from Australia Day and into this new time of year, aligned with Local Government Week in August and it was a great success.

“This year, we will be hosting another fantastic Community Awards night during the first week of August and it’s a great way to celebrate and shine a light on the contributions people have made to the Byron Shire community,” the Mayor said.
