Local Heritage Places Funding 2023 to 2024

Bangalow streetscape

The Local Heritage Places Grant program aims to raise awareness of heritage conservation, with a funding contribution from the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage.

Applications have now closed. Check back in 2024 for our next grant program.

In 2023/24 we had grants of up to $4,000 available for projects that would enhance:

  • individual places
  • buildings
  • historic streetscapes
  • promote appreciation of Byron Shire’s history.

The available funding is dependent on the number and type of applications received.

Bangalow Village

The focus for the 2023-24 Local Heritage Places Grants was conservation works that enhance individual places, buildings and the historic streetscapes of Bangalow.

This included buildings within the Bangalow Heritage Conservation Areas that would in turn promote and foster community and visitor appreciation of the village.

While the focus was to encourage positive work on heritage within Bangalow, owners of heritage properties in other parts of the Shire were encouraged to apply as these were also considered.

Successful applicants need to contribute one dollar for every dollar provided by the grant. Usually, restoration work must be completed by 30 March in the following year.

The grant guidelines outline the requirements for submitting an application.
