Integrated Pest Management Policy

The Integrated Pest Management Policy outlines how we control pests on Council-managed land. This uses a range of appropriate prevention and control methods while minimising the use of pesticides.

The Policy was informed by insights and experience gained from five years of Council aspiring to cease and minimise the use of pesticides.

A review of this period revealed some challenges. A key challenge was balancing environmental costs and benefits of complete pesticide cessation against Council’s obligations to:

  • public and operator safety,
  • biosecurity risks and
  • the maintenance of infrastructure and financial responsibility.

Council adopted the Integrated Pest Management Policy in 2018.
