The upgrade of sections of Mullumbimby Road is being done in three stages:

Stage one - Safety improvements from The Saddle Road intersection to the McAuleys Lane intersection.

Stage two - Safety improvements and drainage from The Saddle Road to Gulgan Road.

We will also be doing heavy patching on flood-damaged sections of Mullumbimby Road over the next 12 months.

There will be delays and detours for drivers for the duration of the project.

Drivers should consider alternative routes to and from Mullumbimby e.g. Myocum Road or Coolamon Scenic Drive.

Funding

The combined value of this project is $5.3 million.

These projects are jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments and Council:

  • Regional Roads and Transport Recovery Program Betterment Fund.
  • Essential Public Asset Reconstruction Work funding
  • Australian Government Blackspot Program
  • Transport for NSW Roads to Recovery Program

Future roundabout at the intersection of Gulgan Road and Mullumbimby Road

Council is seeking grant opportunities for the construction of a roundabout at the intersection of Gulgan Road and Mullumbimby Road.

Mullumbimby to Brunswick Cycleway

This project does not include work on the Mullumbimby to Brunswick Heads cycleway because it is not part of the grant funding.

Design of the cycleway is underway and expected to be finalised in July 2025.  Council will then start looking for grant funding for this important project.
