Arts and culture

Byron Shire has many artists, writers and film-makers in a thriving arts sector. The area is made up of a diverse and colourful mix of people, with each of the towns and villages having their own distinct mix of cultural values, embracing both traditional and alternative lifestyles and philosophies.

Council recognises the importance of this activity to quality of life. Arts and culture play a role in building strong, resilient and cohesive communities. They support connections between people and place and contribute to safety, health and happiness. Our local culture is expressed through many events and arts activities.

Council adopted an Arts and Culture Policy in August 2020 and supports public art which is guided by the Public Art Strategy (refer to the page on public art for further information).
