Public Space Liaison Officers
We want to make sure that people sleeping rough or experiencing homelessness are treated compassionately and with respect.
We have two Public Space Liaison Officers who work with:
- community
- local businesses
- service providers
- people sleeping rough.
The role of the Public Space Liaison Officers is to:
- Reach out to people sleeping rough or experiencing homelessness in the Byron Shire.
- Connect people sleeping rough or experiencing homelessness to services and support locally.
- Work with local businesses to reduce the impacts of local homelessness.
- Provide information to people sleeping rough about Council projects, such as construction, events, natural disasters, that may impact them.
- Provide advice to Council teams.
- Participate in the Ending Rough Sleeping Collaboration Byron Shire, including being members of the Service Coordination Group and the Local Leaders Group.
If you have welfare concerns for someone sleeping rough, or if you see any accumulated items in public spaces, call 02 6626 7000 and we’ll get our Public Space Liaison Officers to assist.
