New roundabout on the way for Byron TAFE access road, Bayshore Drive
Published on 05 September 2024
Council is starting works on a new roundabout at the intersection of the access road to the new Byron TAFE and Byron Bay Fair (IGA complex), on Bayshore Drive, at the end of September.
The new roundabout is a requirement of a Development Application (DA) for Council’s Lot 12 Bayshore Drive estate – which now includes the newly constructed Byron TAFE facility.
The works are expected to take around five months to complete.
In addition to construction of the new roundabout, the $2.4m project includes road and footpath improvements, installation of garden beds, replacement of kerbs and gutters, installation of lighting and construction of water and sewer infrastructure.
It will complement the roadwork, footpath and parking improvements recently finished on the stretch of Bayshore Drive between Grevillea Street and Banksia Drive in the Byron Arts and Industry Estate.
Council’s Director Infrastructure Services, Phil Holloway, said that while construction of the new roundabout was necessary due to the Development Application, Council would be working hard to reduce impacts on local businesses and residents.
“We’re keeping one lane open to local traffic during the works and now that we’ve completed roadworks along Bayshore Drive, we can lessen the impacts through traffic management.”
“We are talking to businesses and residents in the area and understandably they are worried about the effects of the work in terms of economic impact, as well as noise and traffic disruption,” Mr Holloway said.
“We will be doing all we can to help support businesses during the project, especially those in and around Byron Bay Fair, and that includes encouraging everyone to continue shopping and using all the services at Byron Bay Fair – it will all still be open for business as usual.
