Major improvements on sections of Mullumbimby Road will start towards the middle of 2025 and will take around four months to finish.

The work will be divided into three stages.

Stage one

  • Safety improvements from the Saddle Road intersection to the McAuleys Lane intersection..

Stage two

  • Safety improvements and drainage from Mullumbimby Road to Gulgan Road.

Stage three

  • Patching of flood-damaged sections of Mullumbimby Road.

The project is jointly funded by the Australian and NSW Governments and Council.

Phil Holloway, Director Infrastructure Services, said Mullumbimby Road is one of the busiest in the Byron Shire, with an average of 13,000 vehicles using it every day.

“To have the funding to be able to do these upgrades is great news for the community but because it is such a major connecting road there will be disruptions and delays to drivers while we get the work done,” Mr Holloway said.

“Staff will be out talking to property and business owners in the area and, as we do with all our projects, will be talking to emergency services and bus operators well in advance to see how we can accommodate their needs,” he said.
