More staff to bolster push against illegal camping, dogs and parking

Byron Shire Council’s Enforcement team is to be bolstered in response to concerns about illegal camping, parking and irresponsible dog ownership.

At last week’s Council meeting, Councillors agreed to allocate $250,000 for additional staff and a vehicle.

$6,462 in fines and costs for illegal dumping

A man has been fined $4,000 and ordered to pay further costs of $2,462 after being found guilty of illegally dumping building waste in the Byron Shire in 2021.

The incident happened on Tyagarah Road at Tyagarah on 29 March 2021.

Heritage Park Landscape Masterplan on exhibition

A draft Landscape Masterplan for Mullumbimby’s much-loved Heritage Park is on exhibition.

The purpose of the draft masterplan is to provide some direction for the future development and layout of the park which meanders along the bank of the Brunswick River.

Update on repair of Byron Shire’s flood damaged infrastructure

Byron Shire Council has recorded damage to over 600 pieces of infrastructure including roads, bridges, causeways and guardrails, as a result of the 2022 floods - and is submitting forty-two separate funding applications to the State and Federal Governments via Transport for NSW (TfNSW).

Federal Drive reconstruction is underway

Contractors have set up their site compounds on Federal Drive and work on the reconstruction of the road started this week.

The $23 million project is expected to take some 12 months to finish, a reflection of the complexity of the landslip which happened during the floods in 2022.
