The Local Heritage Grant program supports property owners by providing funds to assist in conserving and enhancing their heritage places, improving the surrounding streetscape and locality, and fostering a greater understanding of heritage significance and upkeep.
If you have recently carried out work to conserve or enhance a listed heritage building, or a building within a heritage conservation area, you may be eligible for a Local Heritage Grant of up to $3,000, offered on a dollar-for-dollar basis.
The aims of the grant are to:
- Encourage works to heritage items that conserve and enhance their heritage-significant aspects.
- Support works to contributory buildings in heritage conservation areas to strengthen their contribution to the area’s overall heritage values.
- Assist residents by helping cover the cost of conservation works.
- Foster greater interest in and awareness of heritage conservation within the Byron Shire.
- Promote a positive community attitude towards protecting and celebrating heritage in the Byron Shire.

To be eligible for a grant:
What you will need to provide
- Approval by Heritage Exemption or Development Application
- Plans or sketches (where applicable)
- Tax invoices for works
- Photographs taken before, during and after the works.
- Statutory declaration the works have been completed and paid for in accordance with eligibility criteria.
- Authorisation from all property owners.
