Display or storage of goods on footpath

If you want to use the footpath or other public places outside your business to store or display goods, you will need to apply for approval.

To make an application, read the guidelines and follow the instructions below.

How to apply

Step 1.Read the Display or storage of goods on footpath Guidelines.

Prepare your application in accordance with the Display or storage of goods on footpath Guidelines(PDF, 1MB).

Step 2.Get approval to use Council land

Complete the form to get approval to use Council land. You will need to include a site plan.

Request for approval to use or occupy Council owned land

Step 3.Complete the online form and submit the following:

  1. Approval to use Council land.
  2. A site plan.
  3. Photographs of the outdoor area and proposed display or storage items.
  4. Certificate of Currency of appropriate public liability insurance.
    At least $20 million coverage that extends to all proposed footpath activity.
  5. Consent from the property owner of the business. 
  6. Other documentation as required

Step 4.Pay the application fees

Once we reviewed your application to make sure we have everything we need to assess it, we will email an invoice for payment of application fees.

Assessment will commence once we receive payment.

Step 5.On approval of an application

If your application is approved, you will receive a license that includes a number of operational conditions, including but not limited to:

  1. the requirement of displaying your approval so it can be viewed by the public.
  2. payment of annual license fees.

Things to note

  1. Public liability insurance must be kept current throughout the life of the approval.
  2. Permits are not transferable. You will need to submit a new application if there is a Change of Licensee and/or Trading Name.
