Footpaths & Cycleways

Byron Shire Bike Plan and Pedestrian Access Mobility Plan

We own and maintain 89km of footpaths and cycleways, stairs and kerb ramps across the Shire.

Our Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan and a 10 year Bike Plan for the Shire, help guide improvements we make to our footpaths and cycleways.

These plans have been informed by the community as part of our Walk Roll Ride project.

How do we prioritise our projects?

As we continue to expand our pedestrian and bike network, we will prioritise future Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan and Bike Plan projects as follows:
  1. Projects that improve connections to and within current bike and pedestrian networks, as well as public transport.
  2. Projects that align with Integrated Transport Strategy objectives, particularly those that support a shift away from car use.
  3. Projects that are identified by Master Plans as priorities.

We continue to seek grant funding to support the roll out of our pedestrian and bike network.

As funding allows, we also continue to investigate other potential projects that improve connection and support the shift away from car use, but which may not be covered by Master Plans.
