Apply for a parking permit

Buy an annual parking permit to park in Byron Bay's pay-parking areas and council car parks. 

Instructions about how to do this online or in person are provided on this page.

  • Renew your parking permit.
  • Apply for a new parking permit.
  • Change your vehicle details.  

Get your parking permit

To change your address, email, or credit card details, log in to your PayStay account.

Apply online

Step 1.Log into the Parking Permit Portal to:

  • Apply for a new permit.
  • Renew a permit. You will not be able to renew if your permit expired over a month ago. 
  • Check your permit details.
  • Change your number plate if you have purchased a new car.

Step 2.Upload your documents

  • Current copy of your car registration.
  • Proof of residency within the Byron Shire.
  • Copy of your Centrelink (blue) Pensioner card or DVA card, for the Pensioner discount. .

Problem attaching documents?

  1. Check that an Area has been selected. 
  2. Make sure your document is less than 5MB, your file name is short and doesn't include any numbers or symbols.
  3. Ensure your credit card details are up to date in PayStay.

Step 3.Submit your application

  • Ensure all fields marked with an asterix* are complete.
  • Tick to confirm you have read and understood the terms and conditions.

Problem submitting your application?

  1. Check your credit card details are up to date in PayStay.
  2. Check you have completed all fields and accepted Terms and Conditions. 

If you're still unable to submit, email attachments to payparking@byron.nsw.gov.au and we will upload on your behalf.

Step 4.Check your email

You will get an email confirming when your permit application has been approved.

Renewal reminders will be sent from ByronShireCouncilParkingPermits@data.com.au Add this to your address book, or check your junk mail folder, to make sure you receive these emails.

Apply in person

Visit our customer service counter 70 Station Street, Mullumbimby and bring:

  • Current car registration.
  • Proof of residency within the Byron Shire.
  • Copy of your Centrelink (blue) Pensioner card or DVA card.
