Building and certification

Building Certification Services

Council's Building Certification team simplifies the process and eliminates the need to engage additional consultancies and certifiers – saving you time and money.

Building approval

Prior to carrying out any building work or renovations, it is important to find out if the work requires approval. Council's experienced Certifiers can help you with this process.

Building FAQs

We have prepared answers to the most common questions receive about building in Byron Shire.

Book an Inspection

Building and/or subdivision works require an inspection during the course of construction to ensure it meets with regulatory requirements.

Building certificates

A building certificate is usually sought by buyers or sellers of a property to make sure that the particular building (or part of a building) is not going to be the subject of regulatory action by the Council.

Erosion and sediment control

Developers and builders have a legal obligation to take all reasonable care to prevent soil erosion and sediment loss from construction sites.

Pool and spa requirements

Any swimming pool that has a depth of 300mm or more, irrespective of swimming pool wall height, must have a swimming pool fence.

Fire safety certificates and statements

A copy of your Fire Safety Certificate and Fire Safety Statement must be displayed within the relevant building.
