Carlyle Street upgrade and water main replacement

The section of Carlyle Street, between Tennyson Street and Massinger Street was upgraded in 2023/24 to make the area safer for pedestrians, cyclists and drivers.

Work included:

  • Formalising parking on both sides of Carlyle Street near the Byron Bay Rec Grounds.
  • New shared path.
  • Road refuge to make crossing the road safer.
  • Drainage improvements including the installation of stormwater infrastructure.
  • Landscaping including new infiltration garden beds.
  • Replacement of the water main.

41 parking spaces were created on the northern side of the street, including two accessible spaces.

Parallel parking was installed on the other side of the street. 

This project was funded by the NSW Government.
