Beach wheelchairs
Byron Shire Council has a beach wheelchair available for use at Main Beach in Byron Bay and another at Brunswick Heads. Hire of the beach wheelchairs is free.
The Sandcruiser wheelchair is designed to be used on the beach and has large, wide tyres which make light work of loose sand. It has rear wheel steering, which means the chair can pivot easily.
Byron Bay
The Australian Life Guard Service manages hire of the beach wheelchair at Main Beach in Byron Bay. Please see one of the life guards to arrange use during patrol times.
Brunswick Heads
The Brunswick Valley Community Centre manages hire of the beach wheelchair in Brunswick Heads. Loan of the chair must be arranged by telephone at least 24 hours in advance.
Location: Brunswick Valley Community Centre, opposite the Brunswick Heads Surf Life Saving Club (SLSC)
Available: Monday to Friday between 8am and 4.30pm (with discretionary room for adjustment by the caretaker, and depending on weather conditions).
