It’s a project that has endured many delays but finally the upgrade of Rifle Range Road at Bangalow is poised to start in early April.

The Rifle Range Road upgrade is a $4.1 million project that now has the green light to start following final approvals.

The project is jointly funded through the Australian Government’s Road Safety Program, the NSW Government ‘s Fixing Local Roads program and Council.

Council’s Director of Infrastructure Services Phil Holloway said the project was expected to start in July last year, however there were delays due to COVID, floods, increases in the cost of materials and obtaining necessary approvals.

“I would like to thank the Bangalow residents for their patience throughout the delays, as well as the Australian and NSW Governments for their continued support of the project to ensure completion,” Mr Holloway said.

“With all the funding and permits now in place, the contractors have been engaged and staff are working through the final details and timing,” he said.

The Rifle Range Road upgrade aims to make the intersection of Lismore Road and Rifle Range Road a lot safer for pedestrians and drivers.

The project includes:
  • Widening Lismore Road to allow for a right turning lane into Rifle Range Road.
  • Drainage upgrades, including a new culvert under Lismore Road, to reduce flooding.
  • New bus bays and shelters on Lismore Road and Rifle Range Road.
  • Shared paths connecting the bus bays to Tristania Street.
  • Signage, safety barriers and line-marking.
