  • Project value$4.1 million
Winding road with intersection in background

The aim of the project is to improve the safety of the intersection especially for children catching school buses.

Timeframe and detours

We have received final approval from the NSW Government to allow us to start this project.  Works started on Monday 20 May 2024 and will take around three months to complete (weather permitting).

When work starts the intersection of Rifle Range Road and Lismore Road will be closed to all traffic except buses (including school buses) and emergency services so we can:

  • Raise the road.
  • Rebuild the intersection.
  • Install culverts under Lismore Road.

Detours available via Raftons Road (Keith Street or Leslie Street).

Please note there will be some parking restrictions in place during the work, to ensure a safe flow of traffic. Parking will need to be restricted on Rifle Range Road with no stopping temporarily introduced on both sides of the road. Residents are asked to park in their driveways or surrounding streets during the work

This a major project funded by the NSW Government, Australian Government and Council.

The project includes:

  • Widening Lismore Road to allow for a right turning lane into Rifle Range Road
  • Drainage upgrades including a new major culvert under Lismore Road to reduce flooding
  • New bus bays and shelters on Lismore Road and Rifle Range Road
  • Shared paths connecting the bus bays to Tristania Street
  • Signage, safety barriers and line marking

Some trees have been removed to make way for the new bus bays and relocated power services. These include:

  • 20 large camphor laurels
  • Approximately 30 native trees of varying sizes.

No koala feed trees were removed.

In compensation, 150 suitable native trees will be planted and we are negotiating with Bangalow Koalas on this aspect of the project.
