Should our Community Awards be part of Australia Day 2023?

Feedback closes 4 October 2022.

We are exploring options to replace our Australia Day Awards Ceremony with a more inclusive annual Byron Shire Community Awards program at another time of the year.

We would like your thoughts on whether you agree with changing the awards program and removing any links to Australia Day.

We’d also like to know if you have any ideas about other times of the year or dates that could be a suitable alternative.

Take the survey before Tuesday 4 October.

Your feedback will inform a report that will be taken to Council for a decision.

About our community awards program

Our Australia Day Awards recognise individuals from the Byron Shire who make an outstanding contribution to our community life.

Each year, we ask the community to nominate worthy candidates in categories such as:

  • Citizen of the Year
  • Senior Citizen of the Year
  • Volunteer of the Year.

We currently hold our Australia Day Awards Ceremony on the evening before the Australia Day public holiday on 26 January. The citizenship ceremony will continue to take place on this day.
