Byron Bay Bypass Stage 4
- Project typeMajor construction
- Project value$24 million
- Project scheduleStage 4 commenced end of May 2020
- Contractor nameHazell Bros
- Completion Date30 September 2020
Asphalting scheduled for Monday Oct 13 - Wednesday Oct 14
Traffic delays are expected from Monday 12 October – Wednesday 14 October in the Byron Bay town centre with further asphalting works scheduled for Stage 4 of the Byron Bay bypass.
Asphalting crews will be working across the Shirley, Butler and Lawson Street intersection to continue in-filling work and levelling for construction of the central medians in Shirley and Butler Streets.
While there will be occasional lane changes in order to work on different sides of the road, 2-way traffic will be maintained at most times. There will also be occasions when traffic will be stopped to allow asphalt delivery and machinery movements which affect the travel lanes. The work is scheduled for 7am to 6pm each day.
If it is possible, allow additional time to make your way through the town centre, particularly during school pick up and drop off times.
Provisions will be made for cyclists and pedestrians travelling through the intersection during the works. The community is urged to avoid the area during peak times. If possible consider alternative options to driving during this time – including riding a bike, walking or catching the solar train.
Securing asphalt bookings has been challenging this year due to COVID-19 border restrictions, and our project team has had to accept bookings as they come available to ensure minimal disruptions to our construction program.
We appreciate your patience as we deliver this important infrastructure project for the community.
Stage 4 works include
- Re-configuring the roundabout at the Shirley, Butler and Jonson Street intersection.
- Renewing the kerb and gutter
- Renewing and extending the existing shared path.
A 40km/h speed limit will be in place for the duration of the work and intermittent stop/go traffic control during working hours may affect travel times.
Please keep to speed limits and follow the direction of traffic controllers and signs.
