Regional water supply

Rous County Council is the regional water supply authority and provides bulk water to four council areas in the region including Byron Shire.

Rous County Council supplies drinking water to seven reservoirs in the Byron Shire Council from the Nightcap WTP.

All urban areas in Byron Shire, with the exception of Mullumbimby which is supplied from Council's Lavertys Gap Weir, are supplied water from Rocky Creek Dam which is managed by Rous County Council.

Under the Water Supply Agreement, Council is responsible for maintaining water quality in the reservoirs and reticulation system.
