Water and sewer projects

Former South Byron Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) remediation

Former South Byron Sewage Treatment Plant (STP) requires remediation works. Stage 2A nightsoil area works, were completed in 2019. A Request for Tender for Stage 2B remediation works was issued in June. Remediation works are scheduled to be complete in April 2021.

Reducing stormwater in the sewer

Working towards sustainable solutions for reducing stormwater in the sewerage system (inflow and infiltration) in Mullumbimby.

Additional Flow Path Byron Bay Sewage Treatment Plant

Byron Shire Council is investing $1.5 million towards a drainage upgrade in the Byron Arts and Industry Estate, aimed at improving water management in the Belongil catchment while providing better access to the industrial area.

Spanning 2.3 kilometres, the project will also include the construction of a new shaded pathway, cycleway and 14-metre long pedestrian bridge.

Smart Water Meters

Smart water meters will be on trial in the Byron Shire from November 2020 as part of Council’s 12-month pilot project to optimise water management in the region.

Approximately 400 smart water metering devices are being installed on residential and commercial properties in East Mullumbimby and selected bulk recycled water clients in Byron Bay.
