In 2017, a $2.6 million grant from the Australian Government’s Building Better Regions Fund was awarded to Council for the construction of a new gateway roundabout at the intersection of Bayshore Drive and Ewingsdale Road, Byron Bay. The total cost of the roundabout is $5.7 million with Council contributing $3.1 million. Work started in April 2018 and the roundabout opened to traffic on 14 December 2018.
The grant meant we could deliver this critical piece of infrastructure to the community sooner. The new roundabout will be of enormous benefit to local residents, business owners, employees and customers, as well as more than 20,000 motorists, who use the Bayshore Drive and Ewingsdale Road intersection on any given day.
