Pedestrian crossing on Murwillumbah Road

We have upgraded a section of Murwillumbah Road and Coolamon Scenic Drive, Mullumbimby. We also upgraded the pedestrian crossing in front of St John’s Primary School.

Works were completed in June 2023. 

Works included

  • Repairs, stabilisation and resealing the section of Murwillumbah Road, from Casuarina Street up to Coolamon Scenic Drive/Main Arm Road intersection.
  • Upgrades to 200 metres of Coolamon Scenic Drive.
  • Moving and improving the pedestrian crossing (works started in March).

Pedestrian crossing

The existing crossing near the school was replaced to make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists, particularly students. 

Work included:

  • New raised crossing.
  • Line markings to improve safety. 
  • Minor improvements to the road surface.
  • Relocation of light poles.

Funding

  • The works include a new $188k pedestrian crossing funded by NSW Federal Road Safety Program under the School Zone Infrastructure Sub-Program.
  • The School Zone Infrastructure Sub Program is making it safer for pedestrians on their way to and from school, and when walking within school zones. It is part of the $540 million NSW Federal Road Safety Program.
  • North Coolamon Scenic Drive is funded by our Heavy Patching Program.
