We have partnered with community organisations to achieve our net zero emissions goal - To Zero Together!

Zero Emissions Byron (ZEB)

Zero Emissions Byron (ZEB) aims to transition the whole of Byron Shire to net zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2025.

ZEB addresses all sectors of emissions, focusing on five key areas:

  • energy
  • buildings
  • transport
  • land use
  • waste.

Byron Shire is the first community in Australia which has committed to this major goal across all sectors.

We are supporting this goal and collaborating with ZEB to achieve net zero emissions by 2025.

Northern Rivers Electric Vehicle (EV) Forum

In June 2019, ZEB held their first Northern Rivers Electric Vehicle (EV) Forum at Byron Bay’s Cavanbah Centre.

More information about the Northern Rivers Electric Vehicle (EV) Forum is available on the ZEB website.

In 2020 the EV Forum was held online due to COVID-19 restrictions. Their webinar series featuring a range of informative guest speakers is available to view now.

View the webinar series on the Zero Emissions Byron website.

Cities Power Partnership

The Cities Power Partnership (CPP) is a free national program that exists to celebrate and accelerate the emission reduction and clean energy successes of Australian towns and cities. In July 2017 we joined 70 local councils from around Australia, representing more than eight million people, on the CPP program.

Global Covenant of Mayors

The Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy is an international alliance of cities and local governments with a shared long-term vision of promoting and supporting voluntary action to combat climate change and move to a low emission, resilient society.

We are part of 7,511 cities, representing 688,077,205 people worldwide and 9.36% of the total global population, committed to the Global Covenant of Mayors for Climate & Energy.
