The Byron Shire Rural Land Use Strategy (Strategy) provides a 20 year strategic framework to guide future land zoning and use, protection and/or development of our rural environment, economy, community and infrastructure.
Following Council's adoption of the Rural Land Use Strategy , it was first forwarded to the NSW Department of Planning and Environment in December 2017, for their endorsement. The Department’s response in February 2018 identified several non-policy matters requiring clarification and/or additional information in the Strategy. The matters were addressed and an updated Strategy and ‘Supporting Background Information’ were resubmitted to the Department in March 2018. The Department advised of the Strategy’s approval in June 2018 subject to several additional non-policy amendments.
