The NSW Environment Protection Authority has been notified about sewage discharge in Byron Bay which happened between 12 February and 19 March 2025. Council became aware of the problem on 19 March and took corrective action before reporting the incident to the NSW Environment

Pedestrian and vehicle accesses to Seven Mile Beach between Broken Head and Lennox Head will be closed this weekend.The reason for this is so Byron Shire Council staff can remove the carcass of a humpback whale that was buried high in the dunes of Seven Mile Beach after it washed up on the beach in July 2023.

Byron Shire Council and Brunswick Valley Landcare have launched two new tools to help landholders restore wildlife habitat in riparian zones across the Byron Shire. The new tools include an updated publication of Brunswick Valley Landcare’s Revegetating Streams in the Brunswick Catchment and Council’s new interactive Wildlife Corridors Map.
