Byron Shire Council is sending a shout out to people who love where they live and want to make a positive contribution to their community.

Expressions of Interest to become a member of Council’s Place Planning Collective are now open.

The Place Planning Collective is made up of community members, Councillors and staff who meet monthly to progress the actions of Byron Shire’s place plans – documents that set out what people want to see in their neighbourhood over a 10 to 20-year period.

We are currently looking for members from Bangalow, Mullumbimby, Federal and the Byron Arts and Industry Estate.

In the future, residents from New Brighton, South Golden Beach and Ocean Shores will also be able to join the Collective once the new Place Plan is adopted by Council.

Steph McMurray, Place Liaison Officer, said members of the Place Planning Collective should have strong ties in their local areas.

“We want to hear from people who are active in their communities and who are passionate about making positive changes in our towns and villages,” Ms McMurray said.

“People of all ages, abilities and backgrounds are encouraged to apply,” she said.

Information about the Place Planning Collective and how to submit an Expression of Interest is on Council’s website.

The closing date for Expressions of Interest is 21 October 2024.
