Have a say on the Draft Our Mullumbimby Masterplan
Published on 09 October 2019
Residents of Mullumbimby, business people and those who love the town are urged to read the Draft Our Mullumbimby Masterplan and tell Council what they think.
The Draft Our Mullumbimby Masterplan is an important document that has been prepared by Council staff, in consultation with the Mullumbimby Guidance Group and through them, the wider community.
The draft plan sets out the aspirations of residents for their town and is intended to guide its improvements and development over the next 10 years.
Council Planner, Isabelle Hawton, said staff have been working very closely with the Guidance Group for more than two years to develop the Draft Plan.
“The plan is the result of lots of hard work from the Guidance Group which included 13 community members and three Councillors,” Ms Hawton said.
“The common theme at all of our meetings, and in all of our discussions, was the desire for local residents to manage and guide change so that the community values are upheld,” Ms Hawton said.
“Residents, businesses, families, young people and older people who call Mullumbimby home, have such a strong commitment to making sure the spirit of Mullumbimby lives on into the future, and that the town remains a vibrant, caring and diverse community.
“The plan aims to ensure that the things people love about Mullumbimby – the sense of community, inclusivity, great walkability, services and facilities for locals and the natural environment are enhanced,” Ms Hawton said.
The exhibition of the masterplan will also include an opportunity for budding photographers to get involved with the Visions of Mullum photo competition.
Entries will be in with a chance to win a $200 cash prize and have their photograph featured as a part of the plan
“We are especially keen for young people to be involved in the Visions of Mullum photo competition,” Ms Hawton said.
The Draft Our Mullumbimby Masterplan is on public exhibition until 15 November 2019 and staff will be out and about in Mullumbimby in October, talking to people about the plan.
