Council changes 2019 meeting schedule
Published on 01 February 2019
Keen Byron Shire Council watchers will need to update their diaries this year with two Council meetings to be held every month instead of one. The exception is July when no meetings are scheduled.
In the past Council held one general meeting every month that dealt with all issues across the organisation but in 2019 there will be additional monthly meeting purely for planning matters.
Vanessa Adams, Director Corporate and Community Services, said the new system will be trialled for twelve months.
“This Council has some very long meetings and we thought there might be advantages to separating the agendas for Councillors to have dedicated time on planning matters,” Ms Adams said.
“The planning meetings will start at 11am (generally on the third Thursday of the month), with Councillors undertaking any site visits on the morning before the meeting.
Public access, where people can address Councillors about items on the agenda, will be held for the planning meetings as well as the ordinary meetings. Public access for the planning meeting will be restricted to 30 minutes and specific to items on the planning agenda.
The first Planning meeting for 2019 will be held on 21 February at 11am. The first Ordinary meeting will be held on 28 February at 9am.
A list of Council and committee meeting dates for 2019 is on Council’s website, www.byron.nsw.gov.au.
