Bus stops and shelters All bus stops must comply with accessibility standards by 31 December 2022. We are currently assessing bus stops in the Shire. This will inform a staged program to upgrade each stop to meet the standards.

Byron Shire Rail Corridor The Northern Rivers Rail Trail stretches across four Local Government Areas. We are investigating options for reactivating the rail corridor from Yelgun to Bangalow and west to the Byron Shire border.
1 Broken Head Road redevelopment project The 1 Broken Head Road redevelopment project was paused after Council declined all tenders. Intensive remediation of the site was completed in May 2022. Council is assessing the contamination status of the two effluent ponds at the eastern end of the site.
Mullumbimby Hospital redevelopment Remediation works of the former Mullumbimby Hospital site have been completed. Following community feedback, Council endorsed the Site Strategy and Urban Design Protocol, which outlines future land use for the site.
Dingo Lane solar farm A large scale solar farm is being considered at the Byron Resource Recovery Centre, Dingo Lane, Myocum.
Old Byron Hospital Redevelopment We are redeveloping the old Byron Hospital site. The site will be re-purposed into the Byron Community Hub, providing welfare, social, cultural and educational services.
