The Bangalow Parklands, known by many as the Bangalow Weir, is on the fringe of the town and is a much-loved community asset.
The weir opened in 1924 and was a popular swimming spot for locals, with many people crediting their ability to swim, to the lessons they had in the weir during their childhood. It has immense heritage, social and environmental values for the Bangalow community.
In 2010 the weir failed and it was the wish of the community that the historic weir wall be fixed and the waterway restored.
With the help of funding from the Commonwealth and NSW Governments and Byron Shire Council, and with assistance from Bangalow Parklands Group, Bangalow Landcare and the community, the Bangalow Parklands are looking amazing.
