Grants

Find out about Council's role in accessing and applying for NSW Government and Australian Government grants.

See what grants Council is offering for a variety of community, arts, events and heritage projects.

1. State & Federal Government Grant Programs

Council employs a full-time Grants Coordinator to access and apply for funding from NSW Government and Australian Government grant programs.  Council works alongside staff, community members and not-for-profit organisations to identify funding opportunities and apply for grants that will deliver wide-ranging benefits and outcomes for the local community.

In 2018/19, Byron Shire Council was successful in attracting more than $18 million in grants for infrastructure, community services and facilities that would not otherwise be funded.

In addition to accessing state and federal funding, Council currently offers its own streams of funding opportunities on an annual basis including the Community Events and Sponsorship Fund and the Community Initiatives Program. Council also offers the community a free online grants tool called Grant Finder to assist with identifying and accessing funding opportunities and to assist with the grant writing process.

2. Community Events and Sponsorship Fund

The community is invited to apply for this annual funding in March each year.  The program awards a total of $10,000 to up to five events.  The purpose of the fund is to enable event organisers to embed sustainability principles into their events, and/or sponsor new events so they can establish themselves as ongoing events that contribute to the local community and economy.

3. Community Initiatives Program (Section 356)

Each year, subject to adoption of the budget for the financial year, Council will call for expressions of interest from eligible community groups (you must be an incorporated organisation) to apply for funding through the Community Initiatives Program.  This fund is for community initiatives that address a specific community need,  build a sense of community and align with Council's goals.

4. Grant Finder - your free resource

Grant Finder is a new grants alert and subscription service available free of charge to the Byron Shire community.

This service allows you to search for grants and funding from several sources, as well as subscribe for alerts when new funding opportunities arise.  Grant Finder is also a great resource for grant writing information and tips!
