Youth Arts Project 2011/12

About the Project

In 2011 the Byron Shire Council ran the Youth Arts and Environment Project and installed a series of Youth Arts pieces around the Byron Shire. The winning designs were also turned into a series of postcards which have further promoted the artists’ work. In 2011/12, the Youth Arts Project builds on this success. The Youth Arts Project is a competition for young people to have their works promoted and recognised throughout the community and to contribute to our cultural life through public art.

Please note:

  • To be eligible to enter you must be aged between 12 – 25 and a resident of the Byron Shire.
  • Artists may submit pieces that have been part of other competitions or exhibitions.
  • Artists may submit as many entries as they choose.
  • Artworks must reflect the themes.
  • A judging panel made up of young people, community members, Council staff and Councillors will choose winning designs for each category and make recommendations to Council on the designs to be displayed throughout the Shire.

Prizes:

  • All submitted works will be a part of a public art exhibition or exhibition(s).
  • All submitting artists will receive a certificate of participation.
  • Winning artists will receive $200.
  • Winning artworks will be transferred onto colour bond boards and installed in public places around the Byron Shire.
  • Winning artworks will be made into postcards and distributed for free. Artists will receive up to 50 postcards to promote themselves as an artist.
