Street banner booking information for community groups

To enable the promotion of non-permanent local activities or events of a cultural, civic or community nature, in a manner that does not compromise the aesthetic character, or public safety, of the area within which the signage is displayed.

In accordance with DCP 2002 (part L6.3) Council may permit street banners to be erected in towns in the Shire on a temporary basis to promote special local events of a cultural, civic, community, educational or entertainment nature.

  • Applications are limited to non-profit making bodies for advertising local events.  A copy of the applicants Association’s Certificate of Incorporation must be provided to confirm eligibility.
  • A copy of the banner design proof is to be provided upon application for approval, prior to proceeding with printing arrangements.
  • Application form, payment and banner design is to be lodged at least 14 days prior to banner being installed.  Priority for banner poles will be determined by receipt of this information and payment.  Reservations will not be taken without all of the necessary information.
  • Banners will be erected no more than two weeks prior to the event and will be removed immediately after the event by Council staff.
  • An installation fee of $50.00 will apply for each separate occasion a street banner is erected.
  • Advertising on the banner is limited to the name and date of the event. Sponsor information, or promotion on the banner must be from non profit organisations and should be kept to a minimum.
  • Text on the banner should be simple and large, to be easily read by motorists.
  • The banner must be properly constructed and capable of withstanding strong wind gusts. Please note attached standard specifications for street banners.
  • Street banner to be delivered to Council’s Depot, Bayshore Drive Byron Bay, between 7.00am and 4.00pm to allow installation by Council staff.
  • Contact name and details should be clearly marked and attached to the banner upon delivery, so you may be contacted if any problems arise with the banner and/or the booking.
  • Street banner to be collected from Council’s Bayshore Drive Depot within 24 hours of the completion of the event/agreed completion date.  Council will not store banners.

Special Notes

  1. Users of the Banner Facility Service are advised that every effort will be made to erect banners on the nominated days.  However, if Council staff and equipment are unavailable, or public holidays affect installation, no responsibility will be accepted if street banner display delays occur.
  2. As numerous banner sites are available and will be in use, Council will endeavour to place banner at nominated site or alternatively at another available site.
  3. While all care will be taken, Council accepts no responsibility for theft or damage of street banners.
