Byron Community Centre
We would like to invite you to join the Byron Community Centre in celebrating Social Inclusion Week 2014. Social Inclusion Week is all about supporting, encouraging and embracing all groups within our community to feel valued, and to be respected as vital members of our community. Social Inclusion Week will run from Saturday 22 November to Sunday 30 November.
Many hours of work from staff and volunteers have gone into creating stimulating, empowering and engaging activities by community members for community members, and will be experienced and enjoyed by school groups, young adults, seniors and the general public. You don't want to miss it!
Below is a list of the activities on throughout the week - there is something for everyone! For more details, please see our website at www.lifeofbyron.com or contact the centre on 6685 6807 and ask to speak to Cat Seddon or Mat Dorey, or view the poster here.
Gratitude Tree – Throughout the week
A Social Inclusion Week initative is the creation of a Gratitude Tree. We are asking willing participants in the community to write on a tag their answer to the following question: "What or who do you value most in our community?". We will then hang the tags on the beautiful fig tree opposite Fundies on Jonson Street for the public to read and take in these inspiring messages. Pick up a tag from the Byron Community Centre from the start of November and return it before the end of Social Inclusion Week. View the poster here.
The Bay Singers – Monday, 24 November, 10.30am – 11.30am
Everyone can sing! The Bay Singers, a seniors community singing group, will gather in Railway Park to celebrate the beginning of Social Inclusion Week 2014. This event is open to all, so come together and share your love of music – no experience necessary!
Drumming in the Park – Tuesday, 25 November, 10.30am – 11.30am
Celebrate Social Inclusion Week at Railway Park with the Byron Elder Beats drumming performance, facilitated by Sound Synergy. This event will bring young community members from local schools together with the Byron Elder Beats to celebrate connection and the bringing together of our community with a high energy and very enthusiastic drumming circle. All are welcome to this event, feel free to bring your own instrument and join in!
