Federal Drive - Goonengerry

UPDATE 13/4/17 - WORKSITE HAS BEEN OPENED TO TRAFFIC FOR THE EASTER/ ANZAC PERIOD UNTIL 1 MAY 2017.

Byron Shire Council wishes to advise they will be undertaking Retaining Wall, Road Reconstruction and Drainage Works commencing on Monday 24 January 2017 and extending for an approximate 15 week period to 07 May 2017, weather permitting.

The worksite is on Federal Drive between Mafeking Rd and Jarretts Rd intersections (See diagram below).

Works include:

  • Tree removal
  • Rock Gabion wall
  • Stormwater upgrade
  • Major earthworks including embankments
  • Gravel pavement overlay and spray seal wearing surface

The works will be done in the following stages

Stage 1 – Pre Road Construction Works
Removal of Camphor Laurel trees from Monday 24 January 2016. The worksite will be under Traffic Control from 7am to 5pm daily.

Stage 2 – Installation of Gabion Basket Retaining Wall
From 31 January 2017 the Worksite will be CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC 24hrs a day 7 days a week until the finalisation of the Road Construction works.

Stage 3 – Road Reconstruction and Drainage works
Road Reconstruction and Drainage Works will commence from approximately 21 February 2017 upon completion of the Gabion Basket Retaining Wall. The Worksite will remain CLOSED TO ALL TRAFFIC 24hrs a day 7 days a week until the finalisation of the these works.

A representative of Council will make contact with property owners and residents who have driveway access within the worksite.

The worksite will be under Traffic Control for all stages and motorists must obey all instructions. 

Council appreciates your co-operation and patience during the road closure which allows the works to be expedited, minimising longer term impacts on the community.
