Possum Shoot Road Slip
What's happened at Possum Shoot Road
- Council staff first inspected the slip site on 11 April 2008
- Council staff implemented an immediate closure of the road to stop vehicle traffic through the slip site
- Preliminary geotechnical investigations were carried out during April 2008, which revealed that the site has extremely poor ground conditions
- Detailed survey of the slip site was completed in August 2008
- Geotechnical drilling and testing was completed in September 2008
- Geotechnical modelling and design has been completed
- A geotechnical investigation/ & design report was received by Council staff on 16 October 2008
- The details of the proposed slip repair were reported to Council at its meeting on 27 November 2008. It was resolved by Council (resolution 08-755):
4.That in relation to the Possum Shoot Road Slip:
a) Council reserve the project for inclusion in the next Auslink Roads to Recovery Programme ($250,000), which commences in July 2009, subject to the Local Traffic Committee recommendations in relation to traffic management and potential road closure options; and
b) a further report be presented to Council on the final estimate for approval to proceed to tender.
- Detailed design and estimate has been completed by Council staff, for a gabion faced reinforced soil wall, with significant subsurface drainage
- The detailed estimate was considered by Council at its meeting on 26 February 2009. It was resolved by Council (resolution 09-61), to advertise tenders for the slip repair
- The tender period closed on 28 May 2009. 7 submissions were received
- Council accepted a tender at the Council meeting on 2 July 2009.
- EarthTEC has been engaged to complete the work, starting 3 August 2009 for a period of approximately 8 weeks.
