Beautify Mullum - can you spare a couple of hours this Sunday?

Can you spare a couple of hours and help out at the inaugural Beautify Mullumbimby Day on Sunday 23  August?  You can register your interest at www.byron.nsw.gov.au.

Beautify Mullum Day is looking for help from community minded green thumbs and anyone who can pitch in with a bit of elbow grease.

The Beautify Days were initiated by Byron Shire Council Mayor Simon Richardson back in 2013, and this next event will focus on Mullumbimby’s town centre.

On from 8am until 11am, the Beautify Mullum Volunteers will help out with garden planting, mulching and watering in Burringbar Street. Staff will prepare the work areas, organise the plants and mulch etc … all we need is the Mullumbimby community spirit.

Mayor Simon Richardson said the day is a great way to connect with the Shire’s urban landscape and volunteering is one of the most sustainable ways we can maintain and support civic pride.

“Coming into spring, it’s the perfect time to spruce up the town centre so we will be looking great for the Mullum Music Festival. How great it would look after every garden bed down the whole main street was beautified in one swoop with council and residents banding together and rolling up our sleeves. We’ve held three volunteer days so far, two in Byron and one in Bangalow, and they all have seen great community support with between 30 and 60 people showing up,” he said.

Volunteers will meet at the new meet out the front of the Mullumbimby Council building in Station Street at 8am. Don’t forget to wear a long sleeve shirt, enclosed shoes, hat, gloves, sunscreen and bring your favourite gardening tools and a bottle of water.

And remember, many hands make light work … and it’s also a great way to make new friends. Register your support and sign on at www.byron.nsw.gov.au.
