Desex your cat for only $30
Byron Shire Council is offering cat desexing for only $30 per cat on 22, 23 and 24 October 2009.
Council has partnered with the RSPCA Queensland to bring the mobile desexing unit to the Shire for three days. The RSCPA mobile unit will be located at Byron Shire Council’s car park, Station Street Mullumbimby, from 9.00am to 5.00pm.
Council officer Angie Thomas said cats have the ability to breed in large numbers over a very short period of time.
“A female cat can have three breeding seasons each year and the end result places significant pressure on animal shelters, plus native wildlife can also suffer as a result of stray cats hunting for food.
“A humane way in which this problem can be addressed is to desex your cat as soon as possible,” she said.
Ms Thomas said a desexed cat is more affectionate and is less likely to stray, spray, be territorial and is less likely to catch a number of life-threatening diseases.
The discounted cat desexing program is open to all resident Shire pet owners. Desexed cats on the day will also be microchipped and tattooed.
Cats must be transported in a cat-carrier cage.
