Byron YAC's Pocket Rocket take-off!

The Byron Youth Activities Centre (YAC) is relaunching the 2009 Pocket Rocket youth band competition on Saturday 15 August 2009.

Byron Shire Council’s YAC coordinator Michael Prigmore said band entrants must be under the age of 25 with the majority of the members living in Byron Shire.

“Pocket Rocket has uncovered and supported amazing local young talent in the past such as Natalie and Carlo from Blue King Brown who performed in the original Pocket Rocket, and Luke Kilpatrick who is now in Parkway Drive,” Mr Prigmore said.

“Pocket Rocket is going to be an awesome showcase of our emerging local talent and we invite everyone to come along and support the local young musicians.

“The YAC team are excited to be presenting this event for local young people.

“The competition starts at 12 midday and goes until we have a winner.” Mr Prigmore said.

The competition is now in its fourth year and is funded by Byron Shire Council.

“The event has received fantastic support from the local music and entertainment industry including FRACAS studio, Byron Sound Lounge, Great Northern, Lennox Point Hotel, Screenworks, Reel Spirit and PMD screen printing providing great prizes,” Mr Prigmore said.

Entry forms are available at local High Schools, music outlets or can be downloaded from Council’s website http://www.byron.nsw.gov.au/youth/events .  Entries close Saturday 2 August.
