Commonwealth Grants Commission visit
The Commonwealth Grants Commission will be visiting Byron Shire Council on Wednesday 24 June from 12.00pm to give a presentation to Councillors, senior staff and the public.
Byron Shire Council’s general manager Graeme Faulkner said the Grants Commission will be explaining its operations and the basis of calculating the financial assistance grants.
The presentation by the Grants Commission will take approximately one hour with the following issues being discussed:
- background to the Commission
- a presentation showing Council’s grant calculation
- the basis of the grant distribution
- answers to common questions
- grants for 2009-10
- discussion of methodology and issues
The Grants Commission will also be available to discuss a range of broad themes as they affect the grants, including:
- rate pegging
- the assessment of revenue raising capacity
- capital needs
- entrepreneurial activities
- efficiency
- the influence of Council’s spending
Any interested members from the public are encouraged to attend.
The meeting will take place in Byron Shire Council Chambers, Station Street, Mullumbimby.
