Local musicians join in World Environment Day celebrations

Byron Shire Council’s Living Landscapes World Environment Day celebrations now include the additional performances by jazz, folk, and acoustic entertainers.

According to Council’s natural resources team leader Scott Hetherington, music that celebrates the relationship with nature and the world around us will be featured at the Brunswick Sound Shell concert in TerracePark at Brunswick Heads on Saturday 6 June from 10.00am.

“The line up featuring the Pink Dot Jazz trio, acoustic rappers Paper Strings, Celtic folk band Hide the Potato and original east coast band Orangutan Orchestra, will be a great addition to activities already planned for the Sound Shell,” Mr Hetherington said.

“Reptile awareness displays will be held throughout the day providing an opportunity to get up close with some local snakes, learn how to indentify them, where they can be found and what to do if you are bitten.

“Plus kayaks will be available nearby at Banner Park all morning for exploring the unique environment of the lower Brunswick River and Simpsons Creek,” he said.

The day wraps up with the documentary FLOW – a thought provoking documentary which looks closely at the ownership of water and the multi-billion dollar water industry.
